Q&A with Chris Ross, Director of Housing Programs
As the Director of Housing Programs, for Jericho Road what are your main duties?
Securing properties for development is among our most important objectives and I will be involved in this process. As liaison to the contractors, I will be on site during construction of homes. In the community, I will be the eyes and ears of the organization affording me the opportunity to work on the ground with Jericho Road and other Central City based groups on various community projects.
What roles will you play in the community?
Of course, our main priority is constructing homes for potential homeowners. But, Jericho Road wants to go further, working to empower Central City residents; working to make changes that residents want to see. While providing opportunities for families and individuals to become homeowners, I will focus on providing resources and making connections targeting issues that new homeowners face.
What is the future of Central City?
I see hope. I grew up in Central City, I know the great people and unique traditions that make this community special. The neighborhood's potential is limitless. Jericho Road sees that potential and is contributing to its revitalization. I am grateful to be a part of the renaissance of Central City.
Can homeownership opportunities promote the development of business in Central City?
Yes. When a neighborhood sees change and opportunity, it naturally expands and grows. When more families own homes, the demand for services and products will increase. New and established businesses will see this and investment in the community and business development will follow.
What was it about Jericho Road that drew you to its work?
This work allows me to give potential homeowners a chance to really experience the home they are purchasing. I enjoy offering the opportunity to someone to smell the fresh paint in a room and hear their footsteps on the hardwood floor. The attention Jericho Road provides to the homeowner experience is not being accomplished anywhere else in the city. That's why I am drawn to the work.
